Colbert Busch Applauds Boeing Job Expansion

Charleston, SC. April 9th, 2013…  Elizabeth Colbert Busch issued the following statement about the announcement that Boeing will invest another $1 billion and add at least 2,000 jobs in the community.

“This is a wonderful day for the hardworking people of South Carolina, and it just goes to show the success we can have when the public and private sectors work together. As a businesswoman who supports and is committed to workforce development, this is exactly the kind of project we need. As your member of Congress, I’ll work to make sure even more employers come to our state.

“I applaud Boeing for its investment in South Carolina, and I am confident that the quality of our workforce, our business climate and our prospects will only encourage more employers to come here and expand their operations. With Boeing’s growth and the investments in South Carolina from the energy economic cluster that we teamed up to build, we have the opportunity for tremendous synergy to create good jobs here.

“Boeing is a tremendous partner, whether it’s investing in research or collaborating with the community. They are committed to our children and continuing education to ensure the South Carolina workforce is prepared for the 21st century economy.”

Elizabeth Colbert Busch is a tough and independent businesswoman who is deeply rooted in our community. One of 11 children, Elizabeth helped her family after her father and two brothers were killed in a plane crash. She worked her way through college and then up from the bottom in the Port industry, and she knows how to create good jobs. Elizabeth has refused to take any pledges to special interests or political action committees because her only pledge will be to the people she represents.

Businesswoman Colbert Busch Rejects President Obama’s Budget | Press Release

Charleston, SC. April 10th, 2013… Businesswoman Elizabeth Colbert Busch, a candidate for the 1st Congressional District, issued the following statement announcing her opposition to President Obama’s budget, which is expected to be submitted today.

“I respectfully disagree with the budget that President Obama is expected to present today because it simply doesn’t take the right steps to putting our fiscal house back in order – especially from my perspective as a businesswoman. The fact is, we have to balance our budget, cut our spending and lower taxes for small businesses to create jobs. Unfortunately, this budget takes the opposite approach; it raises taxes, doesn’t balance and doesn’t cut enough – when we should be laser-focused on slashing wasteful and duplicative spending.

“Not only does President Obama’s plan fail to put our finances back in order, it would cut benefits for our seniors, which is wrong. I believe that our seniors earned their Social Security by putting money away every single paycheck for a lifetime – knowing that they could count on Social Security when they retired. Just this week, I met with seniors at Island Oaks Living Center, and they told me how much they worked and depend on Social Security – and I will stand with them. Simply put, Social Security doesn’t contribute to the deficit, and politicians should keep their hands off the trust fund.

“Between President Obama’s budget and Representative Paul Ryan’s plan, neither one has a fiscal approach that is acceptable to South Carolina families. The people of the 1st Congressional District need a representative who will fight for those values in Washington – restoring fiscal responsibility without throwing our seniors under the bus. As a tough and independent businesswoman, I’ll fight for a balanced budget amendment, cut wasteful spending and lower taxes on small businesses.”

Sanford False Attacks

Colbert Busch Responds to Sanford False Attacks

“If there is anyone out there who believes that a board member of the Chamber of Commerce – not to mention the chairwoman of the South Carolina Maritime Association, chairwoman of the International Trade Conference and one of the Journal of Commerce’s Top 20 Women in Transportation – is in the pocket of big labor, I have some oceanfront property in Wyoming for you. In my role at Clemson University, I have been delighted to work so closely with Boeing on research and development in this community, as well as working together to strengthen our workforce through science, technology, engineering and math education. I couldn’t be more pleased that a strong partner like Boeing is expanding here.
“I’m not surprised at Mark Sanford’s false attacks on my character, because I am receiving overwhelming support from across the political spectrum – Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike. We’re getting support from so many different corners because the people of South Carolina want a tough, independent businesswoman to bring that same attitude to Washington and solve our country’s problems. I have refused to take any special interest pledges because my only pledge is to the people of South Carolina – and that is exactly why so many diverse groups are backing me.”

Campaign Press Secretary James Smith added:

“Former Governor Mark Sanford spent most of his career opposing the very public-private partnerships that are key to job growth, and even opposed funding for the Arthur Ravenel Bridge and improving the Charleston Harbor. The fact is, we can’t rely on Mark to commit to bringing industry and the public together to create jobs. These false attacks on Elizabeth are part of a pattern of dishonesty, and we won’t let it stand.”

COLBERT BUSCH CAMPAIGN REACTS TO SANFORD RUN-OFF VICTORY

COLBERT BUSCH NOTES HER SHARED VALUES WITH “THE GREAT PEOPLE OF SOUTH CAROLINA”

Charleston, SC. April 2nd, 2013… The Elizabeth Colbert Busch for Congress campaign released a statement reacting to Mark Sanford’s special election primary victory over Curtis Bostic late Tuesday night.

“I look forward to a vigorous campaign that focuses on creating jobs, balancing our country’s budget and choosing an independent-minded leader who shares the values of the great people of South Carolina,” Elizabeth Colbert Busch said. “As a businesswoman, I will use my experience to cut waste in Washington, lower tax rates so small businesses can create jobs and do the people of South Carolina proud as their representative.”

“We need a voice in Washington who stands up for South Carolina solutions – not either political party. And my business experience will get the job done.”

Recently released internal polling by the Colbert Busch campaign showed her leading Sanford by as much as 3 points ahead of Tuesday’s run-off. A separate poll conducted by the independent Public Policy Polling group also showed Colbert Busch leading Sanford with 45% favorability with just 31% unfavorability to Sanford’s 34% favorability and 58% unfavorability rating.

“The families of this district need a representative who they can trust,” campaign spokesman James Smith said. “Mark Sanford simply has the wrong values for our community – whether that’s his terms as Governor or the last time he was in Congress, where he opposed commonsense measures like the Violence Against Women Act, which provides shelters and resources for domestic violence survivors. On issue after issue, Mark Sanford doesn’t reflect the values of South Carolina.”
